Progression Ski & Snowboard School was set up in Val d’Isere in 2006 and has grown ever since on the back of great customer care and instruction. Progression is now regarded as one of the leading ski & snowboard schools in the Alps providing lessons in Val d’Isere, Tignes, Ste Foy, Les Gets, Morzine and the Chamonix Valley.
Progression is all about friendly, professional and passionate teaching – bringing out the best skiing in you, your friends and your family.
ALL OUR INSTRUCTORS ARE QUALIFIED TO THE HIGHEST INTERNATIONAL LEVEL AND SPEAK ENGLISH AS THEIR FIRST LANGUAGE OR ARE FLUENT IN ENGLISH. FIND OUT A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR BELOW.
Founder and director of the ski school, the wee man is the all-rounder, teaching skiing, snowboarding and telemark. Enthusiastic with everyone from beginners and kids to off-piste skiers. This is his 19th season in Val d’Isere. You might even hear him on the phone from time to time, helping out with the admin.
One of the first British instructors to work in Val d’Isere. Patience is his middle name and he knows every nook and cranny of off-piste there is. His flat was made famous around the world when an avalanche smashed into his bedroom and photos flew around the internet! This is his 20th season in Val d’Isere.
Known by his mother as Neil but universally known as Woody is a Val d‘Isere veteran with nearly 20 years teaching experience in the resort (we are not even sure how many it has actually been). One of the first Brits to teach legally in Val. An ever popular Val d’Isere legend Woody is patience personified with a client list as long as his arm.
James is a busy man! If he isnt teaching he is running his own apartments company, Peak Services, as well as his own CAD design business. But his real passion is teaching skiing. Big smiles all day long. Great with kids and a lover of off piste – that shows what a great versatile instructor he is.
Gianluca Valeri or Pippo
Known as Pippo to one and all this Italian MAEstro has the big hair and the big smile to go with it. An Italian junior racer Pippo enjoys the winters year round as he heads off to Australia to coach some of the up an coming Australian skiers in our summers (one of them even competed at last years World Championships).
Oreste is the cousin of Pippo, our other Italian instructor, so we are keeping it in the family here! Oreste has worked all over the world as an instructor – New Zealand, Australia, Japan, North Korea, Europe and as an off piste guide in Alaska. He loves teaching all levels and just being on the hill. In the summer he runs a Mountain Hut in Italy so the mountain life is in the blood for sure.
Louise came to Val d’Isere in 2012 to join us having been working in another French resort for several years and found her feet straight away. One of our Danish instructors who, unsurprisingly, speaks fantastic English. In the summer she tends to work in Corsica as a guide or in Copenhagen. She enjoyed a great ski trip to Japan last year which made us all very jealous skiing deep powder every day.
John doesnt always dress as a bear although you will see he has a big grin on his face all the time. That is a permanent fixture. He has been in and around the alps for many a year working in many of the main French resorts. John keeps himself busy throughout the year studying and lecturing at Aberdeen University as well as teaching skiing on the artificial and indoor slopes in the UK. His real love is the Alps though and every year he is drawn back to do just one more season!
Amanda hails from a well known Scottish ski family. As a racer she competed for GB and reached the heady heights of No 56 in the world ranking before heading for the Alps. Having spent years coaching in Switzerland she now calls Val d’Isere home, bringing her smile and enthusiasm with her. Just look for the big cheesy grin or the girl skiing past all the guys!
Nichlas has worked in Val d’Isere for several seasons and is an instructor trainer for the Danish Ski Federation and a member of their demo team. Nice and laid back but good fun as well. He used to be a school teacher so he knows all the tricks of the trade to get your skiing going in the right direction.
David is our crazy French friend who joins us from time to time. You will hear the laugh before you see him skiing backwards past you. Happy and chatty all the time – look out for the crazy hats! He’s a legend in the park and takes a mean video!
Fabio has worked in Val d’Isere on and off for years. Coaching skiing throughout the year in Italy and the French Alps. It is rare to have an instructor who has taught for so long and still has that Italian passion for teaching clients.
Stephe is one of our snowboard instructors and the one and only South African instructor working in resort (but we don’t hold that against him). Stephe is also a snowboard instructor trainer so the highest qualified snowboard instructor in the area and a great guy to go with it. Steph has worked all over the world and is a mad keen kitesurfer during the summers.
Roddy is a snowboard instructor by winter and a wakeboard / waterski instructor at his own watersports school on the West coast of Scotland in the summer. Roddy also lectures in off piste safety with Henrys Avalanche Talks and takes off piste equipment training sessions so he is a busy man indeed. Always relaxed and great fun.
VAL D’ISERE, TIGNES, STE.FOY & BEYOND
VAL D’ISERE and TIGNES combine to form one of the greatest ski areas in the world, l’Espace Killy. The majority of our lessons happen in Val d’Isere where we are based but we also provide private lessons in our neighbouring resort Tignes and another nearby resort – STE. FOY (CONFUSINGLY PRONOUNCED ‘FWUH’) which offers small resort charm and character with a huge expanse of off-piste. Many of our instructors also join their clients in other resorts so if you are not coming to our regular haunts maybe we could join you at yours.
